- Q. What is a null-modem cable?
-
- A. A null-modem cable allows two computers to be connected
- by their serial ports to exchange data. This is different to
- a regular serial cable. A null-modem cable has the transmit
- and received wires crossed so that data transmitted from one
- computer will arrive at the receive pin of the other.
-
-
- Q. How can I get my hands on a null-modem cable.
-
- A. Some computer/electronics stores sell null-modem boxes.
- These have the transmit and receive lines crossed so all you
- need to do is add one of these to your existing cable. If
- you cannot obtain a null-modem box you can make your own
- cable or ask me to supply one for you.
-
-
- Q. What are the pinouts needed to make a make my own cable?
-
- A. To make a cable to connect a Macintosh to a PC the
- pinouts are below. (View this document with a fixed pitch
- font).
